Internet Vigilantism
There's a new term on the rise that describes the sort of vigilantism in the online world:
digilantism - the act of crowdsourcing efforts via the internet towards the goal of rectifying an injustice deemed morally wrong by an online vigilante group.
Brought to the forefront of national attention by the Bostom Marathon Bombings, the topic has resurfaced again due to China's flesh-searching engine.
In CS181W, this was the topic of our final project + presentation, a case study that combines perspectives from ethics and policy to better understand the ambigious space of internet vigilantism.
